In the 20th century, the Catholic Church underwent a profound transformation that affected almost all aspects of its activities: doctrine, liturgy, relations with other religions, society and the state. Truly revolutionary changes led to the emergence of traditionalist opposition to the official liberal course of the Popes, in some cases leading to a split and the emergence of phenomena such as Sedevacantism and Lefebvrism, in others to criticism of the papacy by official Catholic hierarchs. This review examines the position of Kazakh Bishop Athanasius Schneider (born 1961) on fundamental changes in the Catholic Church, who, being the current prelate of the Catholic Church, nevertheless is very critical of some aspects of modern doctrine promoted by the Holy See and new liturgical practices, questioning them from conservative positions.
